- How successful do you feel your project/group has been so far? Why?
- Our group has been successful so far. I think we have made a lot of progress in learning about some of the very important NLP concepts. However, I think that our progress could be faster with some more guidance from our professor since he has been very busy.
- What has been the most challenging part of ERSP so far?
- The most challenging part of ERSP for me so far has been managing time. With four classes, a fifth class that our professor wants us to crash, and three research meetings a week, it is a lot of work to handle.
- What strategies have you developed to help you cope with (succeed in) research so far?
- I have employed the strategy of butting my head against the wall a lot, looking at countless resources and reaching as many dead ends. However, I think this method has been effective in developing my knowledge piece by piece
- What has been the most interesting thing you’ve learned? (about research, yourself, etc.)
- The most interesting thing I have learned is how large the fields of machine learning and natural language processing are. Looking at the sheer amount of research papers that have been published makes me awe struck by the immensity of this field.
- How has your perception of the field of CS/yourself as a Computer Scientist changed (if at all)?
- My perception of computer science has not changed much. Research has reinvigorated the sense of novelty again in discovering new interesting things in computer science. And additionally, the intimidation of research has been alleviated a lot by our professor’s friendliness.
- What are you looking forward to?
- I am looking forward to learning more about natural language processing and hopefully building something cool by the end of the year!
